Biography

Vanich Potavanich, a recipient of the 2014 Silpathorn Artist Award by the Ministry of Culture, graduated with a BMus, MMus, and Doctorate from the Department of Music, Faculty of Fine and Applied Arts, Chulalongkorn University. He began trumpet lessons at the age of 12 while studying at Wat Suthiwararam School and later pursued further trumpet studies at the Rotterdam Conservatory in the Netherlands.

Vanich Potavanich is the Resident Conductor of the Royal Bangkok Symphony Orchestra, Rangsit Symphony Orchestra, and Thai National Symphony Orchestra. Since 1995, he has served as Guest Conductor for the Bangkok Symphony Orchestra, Burapha Winds, Dartmouth College Wind Ensemble (USA), Fukushima Youth Sinfonietta, Kasetsart University Wind Symphony, Princess Galyani Vadhana Youth Orchestra, Mahidol Wind Symphony, Million Wind Philharmonic, Musica Sinfonietta (Penang), Taksin Symphony Orchestra, and Thai Youth Orchestra.

He has been selected as a conductor for international music festivals such as the Asian Composer League Conference and the Thailand International Composition Festival and has frequently been invited as a judge for music competitions. Vanich has served as Principal Trumpet of the Royal Bangkok Symphony Orchestra from 1986 to the present.

He has been a guest trumpet player with the Malaysian Philharmonic Orchestra, Kyushu Symphony Orchestra (Japan), Singapore Symphony Orchestra, and Nusantara Symphony Orchestra (Indonesia). He has also enjoyed performing with the Hong Kong Philharmonic Orchestra, as well as ensembles in Busan, Kwangju, Seoul, Macau, London, Belfast, Dublin, and Paris, where he toured in 2003.

A sought-after private trumpet and ensemble teacher, Vanich has delivered numerous master classes at universities in Thailand and internationally, in locations such as Malaysia, Beijing, Shenzhen, Indonesia, Singapore, and Hong Kong. A prolific composer and arranger, his work includes more than four hundred original compositions and arrangements. He is currently Composer in Residence at Rangsit University.

I am working as a musician in the Thailand National Symphony Orchestra and Royal Bangkok Symphony Orchestra as well as teaching at two colleges and three universities.
