Pongsakorn Lertvanitsutha
Biography
Win Pongsakorn Lertvanitsutha was born in Bangkok, Thailand. He started playing trumpet at age of eleven. In 2010, he was admitted to study undergraduate in jazz trumpet performance at College of Music, Mahidol University, Thailand. In 2014, he completed his bachelor’s degree with first honors.
In 2015, he got accepted to study jazz trumpet performance in undergraduate study with Prof. Jim Rotondi at University of Music and Performing Arts Graz, Austria. In 2017, after he graduated his second bachelor’s degree, he continued his graduate study.
In 2019, he completed his Master’s degree in jazz trumpet performance from University of Music and Performing Arts Graz, Austria.
In February 2020, he released his first debut album as a leader with Cellar Live Music and his album was appeared on top 50 JazzWeek chart for 14 weeks. In January 2021 his album was appeared on JazzWeek chart top 100 jazz album of the year 2020. In February 2021 Yes, it is! won Silver medal prize (Outstanding Achievement) In 3 different categories from Global Music Awards 2021 which are composition prize, composer prize and emerging artist. In June 2020, Win Pongsakorn received an outstanding jazz soloist award from Downbeat Magazine student awards competition. In his music career, he has achieved many prizes. In 2009, he received Second Prize at Thailand Trumpet Competition in Bangkok, Thailand. In 2013, he received Third Prize in the 14th Osaka International Music Competition, Osaka, Japan in Duo Category and in 2017, he received First Prize at Žilina International Jazz Competition in Žilina, Slovakia.
Recently in May 2024, Pongsakorn released his new album with legendary David Hazeltine (former pianist of ChetBaker), Jason Brown (former drummer of Joey De Francesco), Paolo Benedettini and Jim Rotondi as a producer. Currently, the album is on rank 30 on top 50 JazzWeek world chart for 11 weeks.
Over many years he had opportunities to work and perform with many artists and bands from all over the world such as: David Hazeltine, Jason Brown, Paolo Benedettini, Randy Brecker, Jim Rotondi, Luis Bonilla, Michael Abene, Sheila Jordan, Bobby Shew, Ed Neumeister, Ed Partyka, Robben Ford, Joe Fiedler, Ray Anderson, JMI Jazz world Orchestra, KUG Jazz Orchestra and Siam Jazz Orchestra.
