  • The DSU50 is not compatible with the EAD10.

What is DSU50?

The DSU50 is Yamaha’s uniquely designed drum microphone, built specifically to capture the natural sound of an acoustic drum kit. Mounted on the bass drum hoop and facing the player, it gives you a clear, wide stereo image of the whole kit with no complicated setup.

One DSU50 is enough to produce a clean, usable drum sound for rehearsals, live shows, recording, monitoring or streaming. If you want more detail—such as clearer cymbals or a wider room sound—adding a second DSU50 expands the stereo image without the hassle of using multiple individual microphones.

When used with the EAD50 module, you can add effects or layer triggered sounds on top of the mic signal, by using triggers or pads, making it ideal for live performance, streaming or music production.

The DSU50 offers professional sound with very simple setup, redefining what drum miking can be.

Note: The DSU50 is included with EAD50 and available separately.

Better Sound. Greater Expression.

The DSU50 sensor unit is engineered specifically for acoustic drums, combining Yamaha’s decades of acoustic expertise with advanced sensing technology. Each component is carefully voiced under Yamaha’s sound direction and refined with input from a respected recording engineer known for his work with leading artists.

Its custom matched-pair condenser capsules, arranged in an XY configuration, are tuned for the complex dynamics of drums. They deliver a natural, balanced stereo sound that captures both power and subtle detail.

Inside the housing, the microphone and sensor sections are physically isolated in a low-noise structure that reduces vibration and mechanical interference, ensuring clean, stable stereo performance in a wide range of environments.

The newly developed trigger sensor accurately detects the bass-drum attack, making expressive hybrid performance possible when paired with the EAD50.

With depth, clarity and musical nuance in every stroke, the DSU50 provides a sensor system that supports a natural, expressive playing experience for every drummer.

Captures the entire drum kit with a single microphone.

The DSU50 uses a matched pair of high-quality condenser capsules arranged in an XY stereo configuration. Each capsule is carefully calibrated and paired to maintain a consistent response and accurate stereo imaging. Mounted on the bass drum, it captures the entire kit with a balanced, natural sound, from the punch of the kick to the shimmer of the cymbals.

With the DSU50, you don’t need multiple microphones or complex phase alignment. Whether you’re recording, streaming, or performing live, the DSU50 delivers a professional, well-balanced drum sound every time, without the usual setup hassle.

Drum-optimized capsules deliver authentic sound character.

The DSU50 is equipped with Yamaha-exclusive condenser microphone capsules, co-developed with a leading Japanese microphone manufacturer and specially tuned for acoustic drums. This results in clear, balanced sound across the full frequency range—from deep lows to shimmering highs.

Inside the housing, the microphone assembly is mounted on a floating structure that reduces vibration and mechanical noise, ensuring stable performance and long-term reliability. Whether you’re on stage or in the studio, the DSU50 captures the fine details of your playing with a natural, lifelike character.

Trigger output lets you blend acoustic and electronic sounds

Beyond its role as a microphone, the DSU50 also includes a dedicated kick-trigger output. It converts each bass drum hit into a trigger signal for the EAD50, allowing you to layer sampled or electronic kick sounds in perfect sync with your acoustic playing. The trigger is designed for stable, responsive detection across a wide dynamic range, giving you a natural playing feel and consistent results both on stage and in the studio.

The result is a seamlessly integrated hybrid setup that broadens your creative possibilities.

Improved housing for clean, reliable drum sound.

The DSU50 features a newly redesigned housing that balances acoustic performance with practical usability. Inside the unit, the sensor section is mounted in a floating structure that reduces unwanted vibration and mechanical noise, giving you clearer and more stable sound capture. Its robust, low-noise construction ensures consistent performance even in high sound-pressure environments.

The slim form factor also lets you mount the DSU50 on the bass drum without affecting your tom placement, so you can keep your usual setup and playing style. These structural improvements help the DSU50 deliver a natural, easy-to-manage sound in a wide range of playing situations.

Clean stereo output with the included pro breakout cable.

The DSU50 includes a dedicated 5-pin XLR to dual 3-pin (L/R) pro-grade breakout cable. The cable uses low-noise shielding designed for professional use, ensuring clean and reliable stereo signal transmission—even over longer cable runs.

Flexible positioning with the built-in stand mount.

In addition to its standard bass-drum hoop clamp, the DSU50 also includes a 3/8-inch threaded mount so you can attach it to a microphone stand. This gives you complete freedom to adjust its position and angle, allowing you to find the ideal placement for any situation—from studio recording to live performance.

Mounting it on a stand also lets the DSU50 capture the wider, natural resonance of your drums from further away from the bass drum, giving you maximum flexibility across many different playing environments.
