Biography
Thailand Brass is a dynamic, brass group performing a diverse repertoire covering many styles and genres. From classical music to popular melodies Thailand Brass concerts offer a musical experience that entertains, stimulates and explores the colourful world of brass instruments. The ensemble performs as a brass quintet-two trumpets, horn, trombone and tuba- but can also expand to perform repertoire for other combinations of brass instruments. Each programme performed is catered specifically to the tastes of the audience and presented in an informal and relaxed environment. The members of Thailand Brass are also well-known educators and introducing children to brass playing is a vital part of the ensemble’s vision. Thailand Brass places a strong emphasis on its educational programme and can make an important contribution to any school music curriculum.
Paul Archibald
Paul Archibald has been a principal player with some of the UK’s finest orchestras and has performed as a studio artist on many iconic recordings such as Gladiator and Lord of the Rings. He is a Fellow of the Royal Academy of Music and received the Honorary Award for Lifetime Achievement at the International Trumpet Guild conference in Minneapolis in June 2023.
He is currently Head of Woodwind and Brass at Shrewsbury International School, Bangkok, Thailand and Trumpet Professor at Chulalongkorn University and Silpakorn University. Paul curates a weekly programme of classical music for RTHK’s The Brew with show presenter, Phil Whelan and is also a member of the International Artist Advisory Council for Mahidol College of Music.
Wirote Srisunanrat
Wirote Srisunanrat graduated from Faculty of Fine and Applied Arts, Chulalongkorn University, He had taken master class with several famous trumpet players such as Henry Nowak, Stephen Burns, Wynton Marsalis, Laurence Gargan, Vince Dimartino and Professor Edmund Cord. Master in Music from Silpakorn University. While he was studying at the Faculty of Fine and Applied Arts, he had performed with Chulalongkorn University Symphony Orchestra, Fine Arts Brass Quintet.
Wirote former member of Royal Bangkok Symphony Orchestra (1991-2017). He also was selected to perform in World Philharmonic Orchestra, Asian Orchestra Week in Japan.
Wirote had performed at the International Trumpet Guild Conference in Bangkok, Siam Philharmonic Orchestra, Ibycus Chamber Orchestra, Fantasia Light Orchestra, Feroci Philharmonic Winds, Thailand Brass Festival and JRP Little Big Band, as a soloist with Sunrise String Orchestra, University of St.Thomas Wind Ensemble and String Ensemble (USA). He appeared as a judge in Thailand Trumpet Competition and presented Master Class in Trumpet Class at Mahidol University College of Music, Silpakorn University and School Wind Band in Singapore, Malaysia, China and Japan.
Wirote also maintains a performance schedule with other ensembles. Wirote is currently Director of Bangkok Trumpet Ensemble and Thailand Brass co-founder with Paul Archibald.
He is Trumpet Instructor at Harrow International School, Bangkok Patana School and International School Bangkok.
Krit Vikornvongvanich
Assistant Professor Krit Vikornvongvanich started playing horn at the age of 13, graduated with a Bachelor of Fine and Apply Arts from Chulalongkorn University and after he had his Diploma from Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts, he also received a Master of Music from Elisabeth University of Music, Hiroshima Japan. In addition, he studied under many well-known horn player such as Gert Seifert (Berlin Philharmonic), Martin Hackleman (National Symphony, Washington D.C.), Frank Lloyd and Michael Thompson (world renowned horn soloist) Former member of Hong Kong Sinfonietta, Asian Youth Orchestra, also freelance player for National Symphony (Malaysia), Nusantara Symphony (Indonesia), Singapore Festival Orchestra, He served as a Principal horn for Bangkok Symphony Orchestra, Siam Philharmonic and Mai Tia Orchestra and low horn position for The Thailand Philharmonic Orchestra.
As a chamber player he was also member of Thailand Brass, Pro Musica Woodwind Quintet, F.A. Brass Quintet, and the founder of the Thailand Horn Club
He is now the Faculty of the Western Music Department, Faculty of Fine Arts, Srinakharinwirot University, and part-time horn instructor for Chulalongkorn University.
Thanapoom Sriwiset
Thanapoom Sriwiset has been a member of the Thailand Philharmonic Orchestra since 2010. He is currently a part time trombone instructor at College of Music Mahidol University. Besides, he is a member of Million Wind Philharmonic and Thailand Brass. He is also a trombone instructor of the Thai Youth Orchestra and Zyamyim Trombone Ensemble.
Thanapoom received his Master's degree at the College of Music, Mahidol University under the instruction of Dr. Sean Scott Read and Mr. Philip Brink. Afterwards he studied with Mr.Thomas Eibinger at the University of Music and Performing Arts Graz, Austria. During that time, he had an opportunity to perform with the Grazer Philharmonische Orchester at the Opernhaus, Graz.
Thanapoom appeared as teacher and performer on various festivals such as Thailand International Trombone Festival, Trombone Day Malaysia, Yamaha Music Festival, Thailand Brass Day, Tuba Mania International Festival, Thailand Trombone Festival and Music Element, YAMP Winds and Percussion Day, TIWEC Brass Camp, Mahidol Brass and Percussion Camp, MCGP Youth Wind Ensemble Camp, Thai Royal Army Music Department Brass.
Sittidech Saohong
Sittidech Saohong started playing Tuba at the age of 14 at Wat Suthiwararam School. He then continued his journey at Kasetsart University studying with Mr. Surapol Thanyawibool. He had opportunities to participate in masterclasses with many artists including Steven Mead and Roger Bobo. He also had participated in many competitions with various ensembles. He was awarded gold prize with Nontri Orchestra Winds at the 17th World Music Contest (Kerkrade, Netherlands) in 2013.
First prize at the Thailand International Wind Symphony Competition (TIWSC) 2018 with Zalymanian Wind Orchestra.
Sittidech is currently an active member of Nontri Orchestra Wind, Zalymanian Wind Orchestra and Feroci Philharmonic Society. Band Director/Music Teacher at Assumption College Thonburi School.
