Biography

Paopun is currently an assistant professor of percussion at the Faculty of Music, Silpakorn University, and serves as the principal timpanist of the Royal Bangkok Symphony Orchestra. He is also recognized as a Yamaha artist and an emerging composer, with many of his percussion compositions performed around the world.

He earned his Bachelor’s degree in Music Education from Chulalongkorn University, then continued his studies at the Mozarteum University in Salzburg, Austria, under Peter Sadlo, a world-renowned percussion soloist, where he completed both bachelor’s and master’s degrees. Later, he achieved his Ph.D. in music.

During his studies, Paopun joined the Madison Scouts Drum and Bugle Corps (USA) in 2002, where he won the DMC Solo & Ensemble Keyboard Champion title (Marimba). He has also earned several awards in prestigious competitions, including the Prize Winner of Pendim International Percussion Competition (Bulgaria, 2005), the International Marimba Competition (Austria, 2009), and the highest score at the International Percussion Competition (Italy, 2016).

Thayarat Sopolpong

Thayarat Sopolpong is the Percussion teacher at Shrewsbury International School, Bangkok; First Percussionist of the Thai Symphony Orchestra; a percussionist with the Thai Classical Chamber Music ensembles Janram and Asian Sonic Force; and a member of the Stage Management Team for both the Thai Symphony Orchestra and the Sugree Charoensook Foundation.
