Biography
Komsun Dilokkunanant, a multifaceted musician and Yamaha Artist Thailand, is a versatile hornist with expertise in performing, teaching, arranging, and composing. Passionate about chamber music, musician wellness, and innovative audience engagement, he has served as Dean of the School of Music at Princess Galyani Vadhana Institute of Music since 2019.
Starting his career at 18, Komsun has performed with the Thailand Philharmonic Orchestra, Malaysian Philharmonic Orchestra, Hong Kong Philharmonic Orchestra, and Macao Orchestra. He has given recitals in the USA, UK, Hong Kong, and Thailand, and appeared as a soloist with ensembles such as the Hong Kong Chamber Wind Philharmonia and the Royal Bangkok Symphony Orchestra.
Since 2009, Komsun has been a member of Sawasdee Woodwind Quintet, curating successful programs like “Musical Tales and the Virtual Experience” and “Reflection of Dance, and Reflection of Life.” The quintet has performed internationally, including in Russia, Singapore, and Macao, and made a landmark appearance at the 2022 International Double Reed Society (IDRS) conference in the USA. They also collaborated with the Pan Pacific Ensemble and the Philippines Philharmonic Orchestra Woodwind Quintet at IDRS2023 in Thailand.
Komsun's compositions and arrangements for chamber music settings include "Reflection of Thai Dances" for 'Nataya' at the da:ns festival 2021 and musical stories for children based on classical tales. His short sketches, such as "Chang à la Saint-Saëns" and "For Bluebird From Elise," are cherished for their charm. In 2024, "Echo of Nora" and "Sudsakorn and the Hermit" were featured at ClarinetFest and the 11th Flute Festival Singapore. His project "Upcycle Music Inspired by Plastic Bottles in the Beautiful Sea," supported by the British Council Thailand, highlights his commitment to sustainability through art.
Komsun holds a Bachelor of and Professional Diploma from the Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts, a Master of Music and Master in Music Performance (Guildhall Artist) from the Guildhall School of Music and Drama, and a Doctor of Musical Arts degree from the University of Iowa. He is a recipient of numerous awards, including the Fund for Classical Music Promotion under the patronage of HRH Princess Galyani Vadhana and the Royal Thai Government Scholarship.
