Yamaha Corporation announces new weather resistant VXL Series slim line array speakers with IP55 compliance
Product Overview
Since its release in 2018, the VXL Series has been praised for its ability to create a comfortable atmosphere in a variety of spaces both large and small in cafes, restaurants, shopping malls, schools, and conference rooms. In response to requests for a model that can also be used outdoors, we have added the VXL Series WR line as a weather-resistant speaker system.
The VXL-WR is Yamaha's first IP55-rated weather-resistant speaker system for use in theme parks, sports grounds, and other outdoor facilities, and is a line array speaker capable of providing clear, loud speech and music reproduction – even outdoors.
Like the current model, it maintains the same slim 54 mm width for use in locations where speech clarity is required but where installation space is limited.
The driver is a waterproofed version of the current model's 3.75 cm (1.5 inch) full-range unit, making it resistant against both weather and deterioration.
In addition, the housing is painted to prevent rusting with a protective washer added to the screws used to secure the unit in place, adding longevity to its use in all weather conditions. In terms of sound quality, these carefully tuned high-performance speaker units deliver clear mid- and high frequencies that make hearing speech and music audio outdoors even easier. The speakers can be installed in a variety of ways to suit a multitude of environments and applications. These include using optional speaker accessories for horizontal or vertical coupling and speaker angle adjustments.
Main Features
1. Designed to blend into various environments with a slim shape and high sound quality
The VXL1B-24-WR and VXL1W-24-WR have 24 drivers, the VXL1B-16-WR and VXL1W-16-WR have 16, and the VXL1B-8-WR and VXL1W-8-WR have 8. Like current VXL Series, the line array format is used to form a linear sound source, which prevents the sound from spreading vertically, helping it deliver clear sound to distant locations. The driver employs a waterproofed 3.75 cm (1.5") full-range unit, allowing it to maintain a slim shape with a 54 mm wide enclosure (housing) so it can be utilized in various environments without compromising the design.

2. Robust mounting bracket offers flexible installation options
The VXL-WR is available with a special PWMB-L1-WR outdoor mounting bracket, which is made of stainless steel and can withstand conditions in outdoor environments.
This allows for a maximum horizontal angle of up to 180° and vertical angle of up to 4.8° for VXL1-24-WR and 10° for VXL1-16-WR when mounted as a stand-alone unit.
Two mounting brackets are required for each of the VXL1B-24-WR, VXL1W-24-WR, VXL1B-16-WR and VXL1W-16-WR speakers, while only one bracket is needed for the VXL1B-8-WR and VXL1W-8-WR.

3. Selectable Coverage Patterns to Match the Installation Environment
The VXL-WR covers a wide area with a directivity angle of 170° horizontally, just like the current VXL Series speakers. All of these models have a switch on the back of the main unit that allows the vertical directivity angle to be switched: 13° (upward 6.5°, downward 6.5°) in NORMAL mode and 20° (upward 10°, downward 10°) in WIDE mode for VXL1B-24-WR, VXL1W-24-WR and 17° (upward 8.5°, downward 8.5°) in NORMAL mode and 22° (upward 11°, downward 11°) in WIDE mode for VXL1B-16-WR, VXL1W-16-WR. The optimum coverage (sound receiving area) can be selected based on the speaker’s height and distance from the area where the speaker is installed.
The VXL1B-8-WR and VXL1W-8-WR only have a vertical directivity of 40° (20° upward, 20° downward).
