Yamaha Canada Music Ltd. (YC) has long supported Stratford Summer Music, the three-week music event that runs concurrently with the world-famous Stratford Festival.

After confirming the appearance of the Recycled Orchestra of Paraguay at this year’s event, Stratford Summer Music Artistic Director John Miller asked if YC could somehow show Canada’s appreciation of this truly unique group, which plays instruments made literally from garbage. They hail from the city of Cateura, a small town outside Asuncion that sits atop a massive garbage dump and is regarded as one of the poorest slums in Latin America.

To acknowledge their amazing gift of music, YC selected eight imperfect or damaged Yamaha VC5S acoustic cellos that were donated to the newly formed Music School in Cateura.
